Book Ends
Indulging Self and Grand Daughter
Every act of making has some self indulgence in it.
Here is a response to the gift of scraps of 30mm plywood. The sheet edge is a bold linear graphic.
Making my grand daughter’s initials to decorate her book ends indulged my desire to play with mitres in the lines of ply. The T was most fun. Also from scrap is the chassis for the letters. They are recycled oregon. It is a timber that enjoys splitting. More oregon is used plug old bolt holes. Generally rough, it allows the lines of ply to take control and give LT pride of place. Of course, I bought the decorations. They are a nod to my daughter’s love of a story about a very hungry caterpillar, a love she has passed on. Grandpa loved reading that story thirty years ago!
