Clock of Success

The greatest gift from a teacher is success, for success fertilises the desire for more success and nourishes self esteem.

A student, typically, is the hardest assessor of their own work. So, the creation of work where students feel their own success is the art of teaching.

This piece of work began with the donation of fifty quartz clock mechanisms.

How can we get success out of these?
Our creative pallet has  plywood, bold nontoxic colours and friends who love to wave a brush.

We do not have fine motor skills. My task is to design a clock with simple shapes that can be painted a single colour then stapled together. There must be no lines to intimidate the collective lack of confidence.

Here is the prototype. If the resulting clocks are cool, we will use them as a fund raiser.

Over the next few weeks, we will see if the teacher feels successful.

    Work Bench

Enthusiastic, beginning woodworkers look for a place to discover their skills. They read about traditional benches; material costs and required skills are both intimidating. Such great fulfilment can be had when woodworking that I hope the people to whom I talk feel encouraged to go out and experiment with their own creativity. How simply and…
